I live in New Zealand and although we don’t officially celebrate Thanksgiving Day, perhaps it’s time we did. It’s good to take time out to reflect and be grateful. It always feels good with the right attitude even if the events were painful at the time.
To mark this special day I want to take the time to reflect on what I’m thankful for about my trading.
1. The Forex Market Opportunities
The forex market provides a great opportunity for individual traders to make profits in the market from home with just a computer and an internet connection. There are profits on offer if the market moves up or down, it just has to move. I’m thankful that we have free floating foreign exchange markets that are available to me.
2. The Trading Lessons Learned
In the early part of my trading journey, at the times I was receiving a “trading lesson”, they didn’t feel like anything to be thankful for. When the drawdown became so painful I couldn’t bear it, when the forex pair I was trading went up when all my analysis said it was going down, when I got stopped out and got my direction right, when I just got plain confused by it all in the chaos, when all this affected my feeling about life and my abilities, the lost sleep, the anxiety…
The larger the goal, the bigger the test will be. Trading hardships are a way to prepare you for what is to come. To make you respect the risks involved and to show you the way. Don’t just get down about it, ask “what is this trying to teach me”, is there a lesson to be learned here?
If you learn something from the experience it wasn’t a waste but a cost of training. If you don’t you’re bound to be sent that learning lesson again and maybe even louder. So listen carefully and learn fast.
3. The Great People I’ve Met
As I’ve become increasingly involved in trading I’ve met a lot of great people. Some I can call my friends. It’s nice to get to know others who share the same interest and have a mutual understanding.
4. The Opportunity to Help Others
It’s great to have achieved a level of superior consistent profitability where I have a lot to offer and can help other traders achieve and enjoy the success I have. I’m thankful and grateful for that opportunity and the trust people have in me to help them with their own trading journey.
5. The Financial Rewards I Receive
I’m grateful for the money I receive from the markets and the lifestyle that provides. I have great respect for the risks I’m taking and the opportunity for profits. You should never become complacent and always be careful. Reckless trading will always have its day of reckoning someday.
6. The Person I’ve Become
As I’ve survived and then prospered on my trading journey I’m grateful for the person I’ve become. You can’t succeed at trading without a lot of personal growth. The markets have a way of being very ruthless showing you your flaws whether you want to see or not. At times this has been very tough. With trading you need to be extremely objective without letting your emotions influence your decision-making. Consistency is essential and something to strive for. It takes a lot of self-mastery to achieve it and when you do you find you’re someone else you weren’t before. An improved YOU.
7. The Challenges
Trading has unlimited potential for profits. I’m thankful for the on-going challenges that this presents to keep me moving forward and progressing. There’s no ceiling and a constant opportunity to have and be more.
What are you thankful for about your trading? What can you identify with of the things I’ve shared?
